I&#8217;m no fan of Greene&#8217;s writing, but the shadowing I can appreciate. Many writers have spoken of similar shadowing and even possession &#8211; William Burroughs, Patricia Highsmith, Hilary Mantel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2012\/apr\/05\/antonio-tabucchi-writing-pereira-maintains\">Antonio Tabucchi<\/a>, for instance.
