{"id":312,"date":"2008-12-26T11:57:13","date_gmt":"2008-12-26T11:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/meeseeks:5080\/blog\/?p=312"},"modified":"2022-01-18T10:02:53","modified_gmt":"2022-01-18T10:02:53","slug":"poem-past-one-oclock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vukutu.com\/blog\/2008\/12\/poem-past-one-oclock\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem:  Past one o&#039;clock . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we leave behind the economic troubles of 2008, I thought it fitting to post this poem&nbsp;by Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930), Russian futurist poet.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mayakovsky&#8217;s life is celebrated&nbsp;by one of the greatest museums&nbsp;anywhere, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museum.ru\/Majakovskiy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayakovsky House<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;in Moscow, which re-creates in visual and spatial terms the constructivism of Mayakovsky&#8217;s writing.&nbsp;&nbsp; The image is from their web-site, and shows a room in the museum.<br \/>\nThe middle quartrain formed part of Mayakovsky&#8217;s suicide note, with &#8220;you&#8221; replaced with &#8220;life&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Past one o&#8217;clock.&nbsp; You must have gone to bed.<br \/>\nThe Milky Way streams silver through the night.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m in no hurry; with lightning telegrams<br \/>\nI have no cause to wake or trouble you.<br \/>\nAnd, as they say, the incident is closed.<br \/>\nLove&#8217;s boat has smashed against the daily grind.<br \/>\nNow you and I are quits.
