Along the frozen docks<br \/>\nThe workmen set their ragged shirts aright.<br \/>\nThro&#8217; factory doors a stream of dingy light<br \/>\nFollows the scrimmage as it quickly flocks<br \/>\nTo hut and home among the snow&#8217;s gray blocks.-<br \/>\nI love you, human labourers. Good-night!<br \/>\nGood-night to all the blackened arms that ache!<br \/>\nGood-night to every sick and sweated brow,<br \/>\nTo the poor girl that strength and love forsake,<br \/>\nTo the poor boy who can no more! I vow<br \/>\nThe victim soon shall shudder at the stake<br \/>\nAnd fall in blood: we bring him even now.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe second poem, by TS Eliot, was published in 1917, and is number I from the <em>Preludes<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The winter evening settles down<br \/>\nWith smell of steaks in passageways.<br \/>\nSix o&#8217;clock.<br \/>\nThe burnt-out ends of smoky days.<br \/>\nAnd now a gusty shower wraps<br \/>\nThe grimy scraps<br \/>\nOf withered leaves about your feet<br \/>\nAnd newspapers from vacant lots;<br \/>\nThe showers beat<br \/>\nOn broken blinds and chimney-pots,<br \/>\nAnd at the corner of the street<br \/>\nA lonely cab-horse steams and stamps.<br \/>\nAnd then the lighting of the lamps.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>References:<\/em><br \/>\nT.
